A barista in Seattle said my pour was 'fighting the grounds' and it fixed 6 months of bad coffee
I've been brewing pour over at home for about 6 months and always got this bitter, muddy cup no matter what beans I bought. Last week I was at this small shop in Seattle and the barista watched me make one at their little brew bar. She said my pour was too hard and fast, that I was basically blasting a hole through the middle of the bed instead of letting the water soak evenly. So I slowed way down, started pouring in small circles from the center out, and now the same beans taste totally different, way sweeter and cleaner. Has anyone else had a barista or friend point out something small in your technique that made a huge difference?
