Is dropping $800 on a home espresso setup actually worth it?

Last month my buddy in Portland talked me into trying his Linea Mini after 3 years of me swearing my $40 moka pot made coffee just as good. I gotta admit, after a week of dialing in beans from a local roaster, the difference is real, but so is the cleaning and the learning curve. My crew at work still drinks the gas station stuff and thinks I'm crazy for the time sink alone. So for those who made the jump, did the daily ritual stay worth it, or did the novelty wear off after 6 months?
