My sister said my pour over setup is just a slow drip machine
We were at my place in Denver and I was making my usual morning coffee with my Hario V60. She watched the whole thing and said, 'You know, you just paid like 80 bucks for a fancy funnel to do what a $20 machine does, but slower.' I mean, it kind of got to me because she's not wrong about the basic idea, but the control is totally different. Has anyone else had to defend the process to a family member who just doesn't get it?

Ugh, that's the classic "it's just hot bean water" take. My defense is always about the ritual itself, like how making tea in a pot feels different than a bag in a mug. That few minutes of focus in the morning is my brain's reset button, and a machine taking that over would ruin the whole point for me.

Your brother called a Chemex a science project? That thing is basically just a fancy glass funnel with a paper filter. I use one every day and it takes maybe three minutes total. The real science project is people who have those full espresso setups with pressure gauges and steam wands. Now that looks like a lab experiment.
