The milk frother I laughed at actually converts burr grinder haters
I always thought milk frothers were just for fancy lattes and cappuccino drinks. Then last Tuesday at a local shop in Portland, the barista let me try a super cheap handheld one on my plain black coffee. Turns out a good froth changes the texture so much that even my cheap drip brew tasted almost creamy, no milk needed. The stat that got me was reading that microfoam can trap aromatics for up to 15 minutes longer than flat coffee. So now I use mine daily, mostly for the mouthfeel and not the milk. Has anyone else tried this trick with their regular brew, or am I the last one on the train?
The texture thing is real, it changes the whole game. I started doing the same thing about a year ago after my buddy showed me his little frother trick, and now I cant even drink straight drip coffee without at least a quick foam cap on top. Whats wild is you can froth just a tiny splash of water with the coffee oils and it pulls out a totally different flavor profile, almost like a lazy man's espresso. That 15 minute aromatics fact makes total sense too because I notice my cup stays interesting way longer instead of going flat and bitter. Once you get the hang of the angle and the depth of the wand, it takes like ten extra seconds and suddenly your average grocery store beans taste like something from a fancy cafe. Definitely not the last one on this train, more people just need to give it a shot with their normal brew.
