The old Bunn at my dad's shop still beats my $700 machine

Last week I had to fix the Bunn that's been sitting on the counter at my dad's auto shop since like 2001. It's one of those basic commercial ones with the glass pot that looks like it's from a diner. I plugged it in, dumped in the same cheap grounds they buy at Costco, and that thing brewed a full pot in under 3 minutes. My machine at home takes 6 minutes for half that and I paid $700 for it back in March. Three years ago I thought fancy gear was everything. Now I just feel dumb every time I stand in that shop. Has anyone else gone back to a plain drip brewer after chasing all the shiny stuff?

Is it really about the machine or just that the old ones were built different back then?
