TIL coffee cherries are a real fruit and you can eat them

I was reading an article from a farm in Costa Rica and found out the coffee bean is the pit inside a red fruit called a coffee cherry. They said the pulp tastes sweet, almost like a mix of watermelon and hibiscus. Has anyone here ever tried the fruit part, or know where to find it fresh?

Yeah, the pulp is sweet. You can sometimes find the whole dried cherries at specialty coffee shops that roast their own beans.

Whole dried cherries are a thing? I never knew that. There's a tiny roaster near me that does some interesting single origins, I'm gonna have to ask if they ever stock them.

Wow, that's wild! I read a travel blog once where someone described it as tasting like a weird, floral grape. It sounds like you'd have to visit a farm to try it fresh, which is a cool reason for a trip.
