I brought my own mug to my regular spot and the barista did something I didn't expect
There's this small shop near my apartment in Portland that I go to about three times a week for remote work, and last Tuesday I brought my own ceramic mug just to cut down on paper cups. The barista looked at it, smiled, and said "oh, you're a regular now," then gave me the drink for a dollar off without me asking. Two other people at the counter saw it happen and now three of us bring our own mugs every morning and we actually chat while we wait. I thought bringing a mug would be awkward or get me side-eye, but it turned into the easiest way to meet people at a cafe I've ever found. Has anyone else had a coffee shop do something small like that just because you showed up enough times?
