Just had my laptop die at a coffee shop in Austin
I was at Fleet Coffee on South Congress last Tuesday, finally getting into a flow on a freelance project, when my laptop just blacked out mid-sentence. Turns out the power strip under the communal table was loose and someone kicked it, killing my unsaved work for the last 45 minutes. Has anyone else lost progress at a shop and found a way to save backup drafts without being paranoid?

the_mila hit on it with Google Docs. I had the same thing happen at a bakery in Denver and now I just use a cheap auto-save like Dropbox or Scribens in the background. It took the fear out of writing in public for me.

Used to think auto-save was just for lazy people but honestly losing 45 minutes of work at Fleet Coffee completely changed how I feel about it. I set up Google Docs now and just let it save every few seconds so I can actually focus instead of panic saving.
