Overheard a guy at Blue Line Coffee say quiet zones are "elitist" and I kinda get it now

I mean I usually love that place for the calm vibe, but this dude was talking to his friend about how cafes that demand silence just push out people who can't afford noise-canceling headphones or a private office. At first I thought he was just being dramatic, but then I watched a barista tell a mom with a fussy toddler to "keep it down" and the lady looked so embarrassed. Idk, maybe having total quiet isn't always the best thing for everyone. Is there a middle ground, or do we just accept that some spots aren't for certain crowds?

Blue Line is basically for students who dropped $80 on notebooks and want to feel important. I watched a barista shush a group of construction workers once and it was brutal. Just let people exist, man.
