Why does nobody talk about how loud coffee shops actually are for calls
I have been working from cafes around Portland for about 8 months and always picked spots based on wifi and outlet access. Last Tuesday I was at this place on Alberta with great light and a big table, and I took a client call thinking it would be fine. The barista started steaming milk right next to me and the person on the other end literally asked if I was at a construction site. That is when it hit me, I had been choosing cafes for the wrong thing the whole time. I downloaded a free decibel meter app on my phone that night and started checking places before I sit down, and most of my old favorites sit around 70 to 75 decibels. My new go to spot near Hawthorne sits at about 55 and nobody looks at me weird for talking. Now I have a whole short list of quiet cafes with decent drip coffee. Does anyone else check noise levels before picking a spot, or am I the only weirdo with a decibel app?
