Can we talk about the guy who helped me find a comic at the Portland convention?

I was at the Portland Comic Con last year, looking for a specific issue of 'The Amazing Spider-Man' from the 80s. I had checked about ten different vendor tables with no luck and was ready to give up. Then this older guy at a small booth saw me looking and asked what I needed. I told him, and he just nodded, reached under his table, and pulled out a long box labeled 'Misc. Marvel.' He flipped through it for maybe two minutes, pulled out the exact issue, number 252, and said, 'This one? It's a good one.' He didn't even charge me extra, just the cover price. That small act of knowing his stuff and wanting to help another fan find a piece of their collection really stuck with me. It felt like the best part of being in this hobby. Has anyone else had a random fan or seller go out of their way to help you like that?

That's the real magic of cons right there.

Leaving money on the table" misses the point. That good deed builds a loyal customer for life. That's way better than a one time sale.

You think that's a good thing? Sounds like bad business to me. He had a rare issue and just gave it away at cover price. That's leaving money on the table in a tough market. I would have held out for what it's actually worth.
