I finally spent $60 on a comic book bag board combo pack that actually saved my collection

My old bags were those cheap bulk ones from a convention. After three years, some of my older comics from 2015 started bending at the corners. A guy at my local shop in Nashville told me to swap to full backer boards with the bags. The bags were 50 cents each but worth it. Now my books stay flat. Has anyone else noticed warping with thinner boards?

I mean I get that the thicker boards feel sturdier and all but honestly man I've been using the standard 2-ply boards from my LCS for like five years now and never had warping issues. Maybe it's less about the board thickness and more about how tight you bag them or if you're stacking them wrong in the box. I had a buddy who swore by the premium boards too but then he brought over some books from the early 2000s that were in the cheap stuff and they were fine, no bends at all. Could be that 2015 era paper quality is different too those modern issues are way thinner than older stuff so maybe that's what's bending not the boards themselves.

Wait, has anyone actually measured the moisture content in those thicker boards before slapping them in a bag with a book? Seems like if they're holding more humidity they could actually make the warping worse over time.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I had a similar worry with some older books from around the same period, and thicker boards really helped keep them from sagging over time. @grace_gonzalez46 brings up a good point about paper quality too, I think those mid 2010s issues might just be more prone to it.
