My dollar bins at a con in Portland collapsed on me last weekend
I was digging through a long box at the Portland Comic Con and the whole shelf just gave out. Boxes went everywhere and people were stepping on books before I could grab them. I spent the next 20 minutes sorting a mess of $1 issues by hand on the convention floor. Has anyone else had a display go sideways at a show? What did you do about damaged books?

Oh no, not the whole shelf! That's like a nightmare scenario for any collector. I can't believe the convention organizers didn't have those long boxes secured better, it's pretty basic stuff. Did you end up with any torn covers or creased backs from people stepping on them?

When a stack of short boxes fell over at my local shop, I started asking around and found some folks who reinforced the sides with cardboard inserts. That's held up pretty well for me since then, even in a crowded trunk.

That's a good point about the cardboard inserts. I've been meaning to try that myself after a box gave way in my trunk last year. Lucky for me, the only thing that got damaged was a low-grade issue I'd been meaning to replace anyway. My collection has a way of keeping me humble like that.
