PSA: My buddy told me to bag my comics in Mylar not poly and I should have listened sooner

He swore by Mylar bags for years but I thought poly was fine for half the price. After 4 years in storage my early 90s X-Men issues have that wavy yellowing along the edges while his look like day one. Anyone else deal with bag regret and switch over eventually?

Yeah but honestly poly bags aren't that bad if you swap them out every couple years. I've got some old 90s books in poly that look fine, think the real killer is heat and humidity not the bag material itself.

Swapping them out every couple years" is the key part right there... most people don't do that. They just stick a book in a bag and forget about it for a decade. Even cheap poly will hold up fine if you actually follow the maintenance schedule.

The real killer is heat and humidity" - yeah, that's what I used to tell myself too. My collection lived in a climate controlled closet, central air, the whole deal. Still got that wavy yellow look on some 90s books after about five years. Swapping poly bags every two years sounds good on paper but who actually remembers to do it? I forgot twice and now my UXM 266 is more yellow than the sun. My buddy with the Mylars hasn't touched his since 2018 and they still look fresh. I finally caved and bought a pack of Mylites last month. My wallet cried but my comics are happy.
