Rant: My boss keeps bringing up his comic collection in team calls

In my experience, it's cool but makes meetings run long. Your mileage may vary, but how do you deal with fan talk at work?

Ugh, fan talk can really drag things out... My old boss used to quote sci-fi books in every email, and we had to figure out what he meant. It became a inside joke, but it just ate up time.

My friend Nate’s team lead would put Lord of the Rings quotes in all the weekly reports. They spent an extra hour every Friday just looking up what "not all those who wander are lost" had to do with project deadlines. It totally reminds me of what you said, @sean782, about the time it eats up pretending it’s just fun.

Worst part is how it makes you feel dumb for not getting the reference. Like you're failing some secret culture test instead of just trying to do your job. It turns simple feedback into a puzzle, and that extra mental work adds up fast. Honestly, it's a power move disguised as being quirky, because now everyone has to play by their weird rules.
