Serious question, has anyone else ever splurged on a full run of a comic just for the variant covers?

I dropped about $300 on the complete 'Dark Knights: Metal' set with all the store exclusives, and honestly, was it worth it just to have them sit in a box? What do you guys actually do with all your variants?

Honestly, I get it. For me, hunting down every variant is the whole fun, like completing a puzzle. I frame my favorite ones and rotate them on the wall, so I actually see the art. That box is my personal art gallery waiting to happen.

And then you open the box and it's just a bunch of plastic bags staring back at you, right? I mean, I've done it too, but we're basically just buying fancy cardboard to store in other cardboard. It's like paying for a painting and then leaving it in the closet forever. Does looking at the receipt count as enjoying the art?
