That talk with the shop owner about my comic pulls changed how I collect

I was at Cosmic Comics in Brooklyn last Saturday and the owner Mike saw my stack of 12 new issues, all number ones. He asked why I was chasing first issues instead of sticking with a run I actually liked. It hit me that I was treating my pulls like betting on stocks instead of just reading stuff that makes me happy. Now I'm going back through my old boxes and pulling out runs I never finished. Anyone else ever have a shop worker call them out like that?

Wait wait wait, Mike actually asked you THAT while you were standing there with 12 books in your hand? That's wild lol. @the_faith I had the exact same wake up call a couple years ago from this old school guy at my LCS and it completely changed how I grab stuff off the rack. Now I don't even check the issue number half the time I just grab whatever art or writer I'm into.

Mike making you rethink chasing first issues is exactly what happened to me. I started pulling whatever looked cool and actually finished some runs that way, feels way better than just stacking #1s.

Totally. I read somewhere that most #1s end up in discount bins anyway.
