Went to a big con in Chicago versus my local shop's small meet-up

So last month I drove out to the big C2E2 show in Chicago, thinking it would be the best comic fan experience ever. It was huge, crowded, and honestly kind of a blur of long lines and expensive stuff. I barely talked to anyone about actual comics. Then, just this past weekend, I went to the free monthly meet-up at my local shop, The Panel Page. There were maybe 15 of us, we all brought a book from our collection to talk about, and I had a real conversation about the art in the new 'Daredevil' run for like twenty minutes. The small, focused group was way better for actually connecting with other fans than the giant, noisy convention. It felt like a real community. Has anyone else found they get more out of these smaller local events than the huge cons?

Totally get that. I skipped the big con this year and just did my shop's trade night. We passed around a beat up old Moon Knight issue and talked about the artist for an hour. You can't put a price on that kind of talk. The big shows are fun for spectacle, but the small stuff feeds your brain.

That kind of small talk is the best part... hannahm39 gets it. Reminds me of finding a water-stained Silver Surfer in a garage and just staring at the panels. Those quiet finds stick with you way longer than any crowded aisle.

Ever notice how big cons feel like a loud, crowded store?
