An old diver in Port Arthur said I'd ruin my back before 40, and at 38 my MRI finally agreed with him
He kept yelling at me to stop lifting gear off the deck with my back and use my legs plus a tag line instead, and I blew him off for years since we were always rushing the job. Now I'm sitting here with two blown discs and a tender who is half my age moving the same weight I used to muscle around. Any of you running a strict lift plan on deck, or is it just whoever gets yelled at loudest that week?
Man, that old diver was right and it sucks. I work on a boat where we just made it a rule, nobody lifts anything over 50 pounds off the deck without a tag line or a second guy. Took two guys going down with back injuries before the captain finally put it in writing. Rushing the job is exactly how you end up laid up for months while some kid does your work for you.
