Diving coms with a twist - old hardwire vs new digital headsets

I spent last month on a job in Port Arthur swapping between a hardwire Kirby Morgan comms setup and one of those newer digital wireless headsets. The digital unit was crystal clear until the battery died after 4 hours, then I was stuck with dead air. The old school hardwire never let me down once, even when we were crawling through zero vis. Has anyone else found that the newer gear just isn't built for long bottom times?

Dude, same thing happened to me. Took a digital set out on a 6 hour job and the battery crapped out at hour 3. Talk about a hard lesson.

Did you ever look into the lithium rechargeable sets? I remember reading somewhere that they last closer to 8-10 hours on a full charge, but your mileage may vary depending on the brand.

Ha! So much for "all day" battery claims...
