Dropped $2,300 on a Kirby Morgan knockoff helmet and it nearly got me hurt
I bought a used knockoff dive helmet off a guy in Morgan City for $2,300 about a year back because the real Kirby Morgan price felt crazy high at the time. First job in 40 feet of water the exhaust valve stuck, my air flow went sideways, and my tender had to pull me up fast. Sent it to a shop in Lafayette and they told me the internals were mismatched junk that would never pass a real inspection. I ate the $2,300 plus $400 in repairs and bought a used MOD-1 instead. Has anyone else gotten burned going cheap on headgear, and what did you end up running after?

Exhaust valve stuck" is the part that scares me most, that's your whole air supply going bad and you can't even see it coming. Buddy of mine ran a knockoff for two seasons and swore it was fine right up until his reg started free flowing at 60 feet on a platform job. Cheap headgear is the one place where saving money can literally kill you, there's no backup plan when you're already down there. Used MOD-1 was the right call, and honestly a used real one beats a new fake every single time.
