Got chewed out by a supervisor for not using the right lift bag knots

Been diving for about 6 years now, mainly inland and some Gulf jobs. Last week on a salvage job in Mobile Bay, I tied off a lift bag with a standard bowline like I always do. The supervisor stopped the whole operation and told me I was risking losing the bag and damaging the rigging. Said I should have used a double sheet bend with a safety. Thing is, nobody ever taught me that in school or on any crew I worked with. Has anyone else run into supervisors who expect you to know stuff that's not standard everywhere?

Was this a military dive team thing?

Military divers usually have a different setup for that.

Oh man, that's rough. I feel for you, that kind of public dressing down is never fun, especially when you were just doing what you thought was right. It's frustrating when someone expects you to know a specific trick that isn't really taught anywhere common.
