Hit 1000 hours underwater this month and it hit me different than I expected
I broke 1000 logged hours on the bottom last week, and I honestly didn't think it would mean much to me. But when I actually looked at my logbook and added it up, it just hit me how much time I've spent down there in the dark with zero visibility. Most of those hours were in the Gulf working on pipelines where you can't see your own hand. I started thinking about all the close calls too, like that time my hose got pinched under a concrete mattress and I had to cut myself free. The money is okay, but the wear and tear on your body is real. Has anyone else hit a big round number and just stopped to wonder if it's worth it?

That line about the hose getting pinched under a concrete mattress gave me chills. I had a buddy who lost two fingers to a similar situation, and he still talks about that moment like it was yesterday.

I mean, did he ever figure out exactly what made that moment hit so hard? Like was it the sound or the way everything just stopped for a second?
