Hot take: old-school Kirby Morgan band masks vs new full face masks. Which is safer?
Got chewed out by a supervisor in Gulfport last month. Said my Kirby Morgan 37 was outdated. Told me I was risking squeeze with the old oral-nasal design. Switched to a new full-face with integrated comms and a dry top. Now I'm wondering if the old gear is really that bad. Anyone else get pushback on older rigs and change their setup?

Isn't it funny how every industry has that one piece of old gear that worked fine for decades until someone decides it's suddenly dangerous? I see the same thing with mechanics and old tool setups, guys will swear by their Snap-on ratchets from the 80s and then a shop foreman tells them they're a liability. At the end of the day, a competent diver who knows their gear inside out is probably safer than a newbie with the latest and greatest, you know?
