I finally gave in and tried those heated drysuits after years of laughing at them
I used to think heated drysuits were just for guys with more money than common sense, like a total gimmick. But last month on a job off the coast of Aberdeen, the water was 4 degrees and I was shaking so bad after 2 hours I could barely undo my bolts. My buddy let me borrow his for a dive and I swear it cut my recovery time in half. Has anyone else had a change of heart about gear they thought was overkill?

I mean it's funny how fast you go from 'that's ridiculous' to 'why didn't I buy this sooner' once you actually try it. Totally changes your whole mindset on what counts as overkill when you're the one shivering your ass off.

Funny how that works right? I was exactly the same way until a cold water job in Norway left me so stiff my buddy had to pry my fins off. Now I'm over here looking at my old drysuit like it personally betrayed me. Guess I'm just a walking cliché now, all that pride just to end up a convert.
