Lost comms 40 feet down in the Puget Sound, here's what saved my ass
Was doing a hull inspection near Seattle last month, 40 feet down on a barge, and my comms unit just went dead. No static, no diver recall, just silence in my helmet. I kept my breathing slow, tapped out the emergency signal on my knife against the hull, and my tender saw the vibration pattern on the line. We had a backup comms line rigged because of a close call I had 2 years ago on the Gulf Coast, so I switched over and finished the job. Anybody else ever lose comms mid-run and have a backup plan that actually worked, or did you just swim up and call it a day?
