Shoutout to the old guy who told me to pack extra zip ties

I was doing a hull clean in Seattle last month and this retired diver at the dock said 'kid, you can never have too many zip ties down there'. I laughed it off but sure enough, my light mount broke at 80 feet and I had to use my backup ones to rig it up. What's the one piece of gear advice you got that sounded silly but saved your butt?

Zip ties are just a bandaid fix.

My apartment building has this one wobbly handrail they keep fixing with zip ties, like three times a year. I mean it feels like everything is a temporary fix now, from software updates that break more stuff to roads that get patched every spring. It's like we've totally given up on doing things the right way the first time. Maybe it's just me but that mindset is everywhere now.
