The dive shop training I got in 2018 vs what I see new guys coming in with now
Back when I started, gear setup was drilled into us for weeks before we even touched water. Lately I've been working with guys who finished a 4-week course in Florida and they skip half the pre-dive checks. Has anyone else noticed new divers leaning way too much on technology and forgetting basic safety steps?

Used to be all about new gear myself but you're right, skipping checks is just asking for trouble.

Had a buddy skip his gas check two months back. Tank was barely at 2500 psi when he thought it was full. Got down to 40 feet and his computer started screaming at him after 8 minutes. He had to borrow air from his dive master to do a safe ascent. Whole trip got cut short because he relied on his computer to tell him everything. That computer won't save you if you don't check the basics first.
