TIL my old dive helmet's comms were cutting out because of a tiny crack in the cable boot after 8 months of harbor work.
Honestly, I only found it during a full inspection after a buddy said my voice sounded like a robot. Anyone else had comms fail from something that small?

Robot voice" is a classic sign of water getting in.

My old Nokia 3310 got that voice after a rainstorm. It sounded like a tiny Stephen Hawking giving me the weather report. Makes you wonder if modern phones just hide the damage better.

Used to think that whole "robot voice" thing was just some internet meme people threw around when they wanted a free replacement from tech support. Always figured it was a loose wire or a bad speaker, never really believed water could make your voice sound digitized before it killed the unit completely. Then I had a set of wired earbuds act up after a light rain last spring. Same thing, my voice sounded like a text to speech program. Pulled the rubber boot back and there was a hairline crack letting moisture in. It changed my whole view, now I check all my cable boots and connectors every few months, not just the expensive dive gear.
