Took me 5 weeks to figure out why my umbilical kept snagging, and it was one dumb thing
Had a job last month on a river intake, 30 foot depth, and my umbilical kept catching on something near the bottom gate every single dive. I figured it was a burr on the gate frame, so I filed it down, still snagged. Tried a chafe sleeve, rerouted the line three different ways, even blamed the tender for a week. Turned out a 2 inch chunk of old rebar was wedged in the silt about 4 feet off the gate, and I only found it because I ran my hand down the line slow one time instead of rushing to beat the current. Cost me 5 weeks of cussing over something a 10 second check would have caught. What's the dumbest snag you've chased that turned out to be right under your nose?
