Guy at the tire shop in Amarillo said to stop rotating my tires, and now I'm second guessing everything
Stopped in for a rotation last Tuesday at a shop off I-40 and the older guy behind the counter asked why I was bothering. I said, you know, every 5,000 miles like the book says. He laughed and said on a car that sees mostly highway miles he'd just leave them alone and put the money into an alignment once a year. I've been doing the 5,000 mile rotation for like 60,000 miles now and I honestly never questioned it. His point was that my front and rear wear almost the same since I'm not turning much, so yanking them around just adds a chance for somebody to cross thread a lug. That kind of sat with me the rest of the drive. Now I'm wondering if I've been paying for a service that did nothing but cost me time. Does anyone here actually skip rotations on a highway commuter, or is this guy just old and set in his ways?
