I finally looked up how long my bus route actually takes each morning and the number floored me
So I ride the 47 bus into downtown Seattle every weekday and I always just assumed the whole trip was around 35 minutes door to door. Last Tuesday I was bored and started messing with the trip planner on my phone while waiting at the stop, and it said my route averages 52 minutes from the moment I leave my apartment to the moment I badge in at work. I thought that had to be a glitch, so I timed it myself for the rest of that week using the stopwatch on my watch. Five days in a row it came out between 49 and 55 minutes. The weird part is the actual bus ride is only 24 minutes, it's all the waiting and walking that eats the rest. Standing at the stop alone is like 9 minutes on average because the schedule lies, and then there's the 6 block walk from the stop to my office. I felt kind of dumb for not knowing this about my own life, but also weirdly better because now I get why I'm so wiped by the time I sit down. Anyone else actually track their real door to door time and get surprised by what the number turned out to be?
