My old dispatcher was right about the 5am headlights thing

After 14 years of driving I always ignored his advice to flip my high beams off way early on two-lane roads, but last month a guy in a Prius flashed me twice and then swerved like I blinded him, now I kill them a full half mile before any oncoming car and my night commute has gotten way less tense, anyone else had advice they fought for years that turned out to be spot on?

Hills and curves are the sneaky part, I bet that Prius was just the wake-up call because cresting a hill with brights on hits way harder than flat ground. Did you notice if your eyes adjust faster now that you rarely get flashed?
