My train home from Union Station decided to just stop for 30 minutes with no announcement

We were halfway across the bridge when everything just went dark and silent, stuck between stations. The conductor finally came on the speaker and said there was a 'signal issue' but gave no clue how long we'd be there. What are you even supposed to do when you're trapped like that?

Is it really that bad though? You're sitting down, you're not in danger, and you're not paying extra for the time. I've been stuck in worse places, like waiting rooms with no magazines. At least on a train you can look out the window. It's just a boring half hour, not a hostage situation.

Remember that time the power went out in the grocery store for like twenty minutes? Everyone just stood there holding their frozen pizzas in the dark. It's the same weird feeling, being stuck somewhere you're supposed to be moving through. At least on a train you can sit down, I guess. The total silence with no info is the worst part. Makes you feel like you've been forgotten.

Oh man, that reminds me of what happened to my buddy last winter. His train just stopped in a tunnel for over an hour, lights on but nothing moving. He said after the first "we'll be moving shortly" announcement, it was just dead quiet. People started quietly sharing snacks from their bags, which was kinda nice, but also super weird. That feeling of being in limbo, just waiting for someone to remember you're there, it really gets under your skin after a while.
