Paid for a monthly parking pass I only needed for two weeks
My office moved to a new building downtown last month, and I bought a $180 monthly parking pass before checking the bus routes. Turns out the new express bus is faster and only costs $60 a month. I lost $120 because the pass was non-refundable. Always check all your travel options before you commit to a big expense like that. Has anyone else gotten stuck with a pass they didn't need?

Oh that "test my real routine" idea is so smart, I need to try that. My big thing was a yearly museum pass I got all excited about. I went twice in the first month and then just... never again. I told myself I'd go all the time, but my weekends filled up with other stuff. It was a total waste. Now I stick to single tickets, even if it costs more per visit, because I know I won't go enough to make a pass worth it.

Yeah the yearly pass trap is so real. I did the same thing with a zoo membership once.

That "always check all your travel options" part hits hard. I was totally the person who would just buy the pass for convenience without looking. Then I got burned on a gym membership I never used after my work schedule changed. Now I force myself to wait a full week before buying any monthly pass, just to test my real routine. It feels annoying to wait, but it saves so much money. What's the longest you've ever waited before buying something like that?
