Pro tip: folding your bike on the bus changed my whole routine

I used to just roll my bike onto the bus and block the aisle near the door. But last Tuesday, a driver named Mike at the 7th Street stop told me to fold it and stow it in the luggage rack instead. He showed me how to do it in like 30 seconds, and now I don't get dirty looks from people trying to get on. Has anyone else found a trick that made their commute way less awkward?

That driver Mike sounds like a real one. In my experience, most drivers just wave you on without saying anything, but they probably want to. Did he show you the right way to latch the folded bike so it doesn't slide around when the bus brakes hard? I tried it once and my bike tipped over on a sharp turn, felt like everyone stared at me for a solid block.

Actually I think hauling a folded bike on the bus just adds more hassle than it saves. You're stuck carrying a heavy awkward shape through the aisle while people squeeze past, plus you've gotta worry about it falling over or scratching up the rack. Rolling it straight on and keeping it by the door lets you hop off quick and skip all that extra folding and fussing around.

Jumping on what you said @jesse_williams62... that tipping problem is real. Mike actually showed me to hook the loose pedal under the frame before latching it, and now it stays put even on those sharp turns near the hospital stop. Also, I wrap a bungee cord around the whole thing just for extra security, keeps it from rattling against the rack too.
