Tried taking the back roads through Clifton to avoid I-71 traffic

I heard from a coworker that cutting through Clifton Heights saves like 15 minutes during rush hour. Gave it a shot yesterday morning and ended up stuck behind a school bus for 10 blocks, took me 45 minutes total. Learned that Google Maps might actually know what it's talking about, or maybe just stick to the highway next time. Anyone else have a shortcut that completely backfired?

Funny enough bennett.vera, I read somewhere that taking shortcuts during rush hour only saves time if you know the route cold, any wrong turn or slow vehicle and you're cooked. Sounds like your buddy and you both got burned the same way I did, guess some lessons have to be learned the hard way.

Asked a buddy about that same shortcut last week. He tried it and ended up behind a garbage truck that stopped at every single house. 45 minutes for what should have been a 15 minute drive. What made you think your coworker's tip was actually any good?
