Unpopular opinion: I rode my bike in the door zone for 3 years before a bus mirror almost hit me on Clark St
Last Tuesday a CTA bus passed so close on Clark St that its mirror brushed my handlebar, and that is when it hit me that riding in the door zone is the whole reason I keep getting squeezed. I measured it after, and my line was only about 2 feet from parked cars, so drivers had no room to give me 3 feet without crossing the center line. Started riding closer to the traffic lane a week ago and I get way fewer close calls, though some guy in a Prius laid on his horn for 10 seconds. Anyone else made this switch, and did people honk at you for a while before they got used to it?
Wait, you rode like that for 3 whole years?? A bus mirror actually touching your handlebar is terrifying, glad you switched it up before something worse happened.
