A client's old photo recovery made my week
I was at a shop in Portland and this older guy brought in a 15 year old hard drive with family pictures he thought were gone for good. After a couple hours with a USB adapter and some software, I got most of them back and he just kept saying 'thank you' over and over. What's a small fix that made you feel good lately?

I keep a cheap USB adapter in my toolbox for exactly this kind of emergency.

That feeling when you recover lost memories is special. It is not just about fixing a drive, it is about giving someone back a piece of their history. Those small wins are what make the job worthwhile.

Yeah, I mean, the best thing you can do is just have a solid backup plan from the start. I keep telling people to use the 3-2-1 rule. Have three copies of your stuff, on two different types of media, with one copy off-site. So like, your phone photos go to your computer, then to an external drive, and also to a cloud service. It sounds like a lot but it saves you when a drive just dies out of nowhere.
