A loose SATA cable was making a customer think her new SSD died
Had a lady bring in her desktop last Thursday saying the machine would freeze for 30 seconds and then boot to a black screen after she swapped in a new SSD. Instead of running every drive test in the book, I just reseated the SATA data cable on both ends and it fixed everything, because the old connector was barely making contact. How do you all handle customers who are already convinced the drive is bad before you even open the case?
Removing a drive is like an hour of work on some of these cases, so I get why she jumped to "the SSD is dead." But honestly I would have done the same thing you did first, reseat the cable before touching any software. Nine times out of ten it's the cheap stuff that fails, not the part the customer is blaming.
