Hit 500 successful drive recoveries this morning. Never thought I'd get here.
Been doing data recovery on the side for like 4 years now. Started with just pulling files off dead laptops for friends at the bar. This morning some lady brought in a Seagate that clicked three times then went silent. Got her wedding photos back and she almost cried. Checked my logbook after and realized that was number 500. Feels weird to have a number like that attached to something I just kind of fell into. Anyone else keep track of how many jobs they've done or am I just being weird about it?

That 500 number means you saved something for someone almost every week for four years.

Math checks out, but why are we bragging about last-place consistency?

500 recoveries is a solid milestone but you might be missing the real story there. That logbook probably shows a pattern of what drives fail most often and when. Bet you could warn people about specific models before they even break.
The lady with the wedding photos is the part that sticks with me though. Most people dont realize data recovery is less about hard drives and more about managing someone's panic in real time. You talked her down, got her files back, and sent her on her way.
Numbers like that are good for tracking your own growth but the real value is knowing you can fix things most people would throw away. Four years of that makes you a specialist whether you planned it or not.
