I know everyone says to reinstall Windows for a slow boot, but I fixed one with a single BIOS setting
Had a laptop from a customer in Phoenix that took 4 minutes to get to the login screen. Everyone at the shop said to just wipe it and start fresh. I checked the boot order and saw the DVD drive was set first, even though it was empty. Changed it to boot from the SSD first, and the startup time dropped to 25 seconds. Has anyone else found a weird BIOS thing that fixed a problem everyone else missed?

Remember my buddy had a similar thing with his old gaming PC. It kept crashing during games and his whole group told him his graphics card was fried. He spent weeks looking at temps and drivers. Turns out his RAM speed in the BIOS was set way higher than the sticks could actually handle. He dialed it back to the right speed and it ran perfectly. Felt like a total wizard for fixing it without buying a new part.

Classic case of everyone blaming the most expensive part. @the_simon, your buddy must have felt so smug after that, like he found a secret cheat code in the manual. All that time spent on drivers when the fix was just a few clicks in the BIOS. It's the kind of simple fix that makes you question every tech problem you've ever had.

People overlook the basics too often. Checking the simple stuff first saves so much time and money. It's always worth a quick look in the BIOS.
