Rant: watched a shop in Cincinnati lose 3 drives in a week because nobody checks SMART data before imaging
Was shadowing a data recovery guy at a shop off Vine Street last year and he pulled a drive that was clicking, first thing he did was run CrystalDiskInfo on it before touching anything. Said he sees it all the time, techs clone a dying drive straight to a new one and kill it faster because the heads are already toast. Now I check reallocated sector count and pending sectors on every drive that comes in, and if those numbers are bad I tell the customer straight up that cloning is gambling. Anyone got a cutoff number where you just refuse to image and send it to a pro instead?
