Still think about that old CRT alignment tool I had back in 2004

I was digging through old boxes last weekend and found my old CRT alignment tool I used at a shop in Austin. I mean, those things were a pain to haul around but the picture quality after a good tweak was something else. These days with flat panels it's just plug and play but I kinda miss the satisfaction of dialing in those geometry settings perfectly. Any other old-timers here still have their CRT tools collecting dust?

The real hidden gem with those tools was using them to revive old RGB monitors for retro gaming setups, nobody talks about how CRT alignment gear basically saved the classic arcade scene.

and that’s exactly what my buddy Dave found out last year when he dragged this old Trinitron out of his dad’s basement, @the_anthony. He spent weeks trying to get the geometry right (you know, with those test patterns and all) and finally used some old CRT alignment software he found on a forum. Now it’s perfect for his Neo Geo collection and he won’t shut up about it, haha. It really is amazing how that old gear kept those monitors from just becoming landfill.
