That $40 thermal paste tube was a total waste

Bought a premium tube last month for a CPU swap. Didn't make a single degree difference. Anyone else stick with the cheap stuff and get the same results?

Yeah, people get way too hung up on thermal paste. Unless you're using something that's actually broken or like a tub of mayonnaise, you're probably fine. The difference between a $5 tube and a $40 tube is basically nothing once you're past a certain quality point. Most of the time it's just about having good contact and the right mounting pressure. I've used the cheap stuff from a local computer shop for years and never had a problem with temps. It's one of those things where the marketing just gets to people I think.

Yeah exactly, @mark_mitchell nailed it. I mean, I've seen people obsess over like one degree difference between pastes and it's just silly. As long as you're not using mayo or toothpaste, you're golden.
