The guy who told me to always use thermal paste from a syringe was right
My old lead tech swore that tube paste was fine, but the thermal paste that comes in a syringe actually spreads way better and lasts longer. I finally switched after a Ryzen build last week and dropped 4 degrees under load. Has anyone else noticed a big difference between paste types?

4 degrees under load could also just be better mounting pressure or ambient temps. Honestly unless you're pushing serious overclocks the difference is probably negligible.

4 degrees under load could also just be better mounting pressure" - did you test that theory by swapping pastes without reseating the cooler?

Wait, is that really just from the syringe vs tube thing? I used to be one of those people who grabbed whatever was cheapest at Micro Center and figured it all worked the same. But @william_torres you might be onto something about mounting pressure, I actually did re-mount the cooler when I switched pastes. Still, the syringe stuff was way easier to spread evenly on the IHS, I didn't get those weird gaps or air bubbles I'd sometimes see with tube paste. The 4 degree drop feels real to me, maybe it's placebo but my temps have stayed consistent for two weeks now.
