An old timer told me to use a garden sprayer for curing compound and I thought he was nuts

I was working a big driveway pour in Cedar Rapids last summer, and the heat was brutal. The foreman, a guy named Frank who's been doing this since the 70s, saw me starting to roll on the curing compound. He stopped me and said, 'Kid, you're wasting time and product. Go get a clean two gallon garden sprayer from the hardware store.' I was sure it would come out blotchy and uneven, but I tried it anyway just to humor him. I filled it with the same white-pigmented compound, pumped it a few times, and gave it a shot. It went on in a perfect, fine mist, covered twice the area in half the time, and used way less material. The finish was totally even with no streaks. I've used that method on every job since. Has anyone else tried this, or do you have a different trick for applying sealer fast?

Switched to a pump sprayer years ago after watching a crew waste half a day rolling. The key is a good, adjustable nozzle and keeping the pressure steady. I use it for clear sealers too, just make sure you clean it out real good after. Ever run into issues with it clogging on a windy day?

Exactly. I fought it for years too, stuck with the roller. Then on a big warehouse floor, my buddy shows up with a sprayer. I gave him so much crap until I saw how fast he was moving. The mist gets into every little pore and scratch the roller just skips over. You have to watch the wind, sure, but that's just part of the job. I'll never go back to pushing a roller around like a sucker.

It's just paint, not a religion.
