Appreciation post: The dad versus the fresh slab debate
A kid's toy landed on wet concrete yesterday. Half the crew thought letting the father grab it was okay, the other half said it would ruin the finish. What's your take?

That "dad versus the fresh slab" debate is such a tough one lol. I feel for the dad trying to get his kid's toy, but I also get why the crew would worry about the concrete. It's one of those moments where you're stuck between being a good parent and not messing up work. I've seen similar things happen, and it always causes a bit of tension. Hope they found a way to get the toy without too much damage.

Yeah and like @abbyg60 said, it's a total parent versus pro moment. I was listening to some podcast the other day where a guy talked about being on a concrete crew, and he said the biggest fights are always about stuff like this, where someone's personal life crashes into the job site. You gotta think, that toy is probably some favorite thing, so the dad's heart is in the right place, but man, fresh concrete is a one-shot deal.

Hold up, I gotta side with the crew here. Fresh concrete sets once, and if you mess it up, the whole job's ruined. @the_alice mentioned that podcast about concrete crews, and she's right, this is a pro moment where work comes first. That slab could be for a house or a business, and now it's messed up because of a toy. Sure, being a dad is important, but there are other ways to handle it without walking on wet concrete. Jobs have tight schedules and real costs, so one toy shouldn't blow all that. The crew has to protect their work, even if it feels cold.
