Learned a hard lesson about expansion joints on a job in Phoenix

I was working a driveway in Phoenix last August and skipped cutting control joints deep enough because the concrete was setting fast in that heat. Within 3 days a crack ran right through the middle of the slab, totally off any line I had. Now I always cut at least 1/4 the depth no matter how fast I'm moving... anyone else had joints fail on them in hot weather?

...and that's exactly what I was thinking, @elliot_johnson31, but it goes deeper than that. It's like how when something goes wrong, we always want to pin it on one thing, but reality's usually a mess of little stuff. Like my truck won't start, I blame the battery but really it's a loose wire AND a dying alternator AND I left the dome light on. Or how my neighbor's lawn died, he thought it was the heat but it was his sprinkler heads spraying the sidewalk half the time. You gotta look at the whole picture, not just the obvious culprit. The Phoenix heat made it worse, the wrong mix definitely didn't help, but the real failure was probably my own cut being too shallow, all three things lining up at once.

Could be the mix more than the heat, right?
