Old timer on a job site showed me a trowel trick that blew my mind
I was finishing a walkway in Richmond a few months back when this retired finisher named Earl walked by and watched me for a minute. He said 'you're working too hard, kid' and grabbed my trowel right out of my hand. He took the heel of the blade and just skimmed it across a wet edge with this light flipping motion I'd never seen anyone do before. The surface came out glassy smooth without any of the drag marks I always get. He told me most guys push too hard on the trowel and that you gotta let the concrete's own weight do the work for you. I've been practicing it every chance I get and my finishes are way cleaner now. Anyone else ever run into some random old pro who dropped a game changer on you?
